America's Cup

The Americas Cup is a sailboat match race and regatta and the oldest active trophy in the international sporting arena. The cup is named for the first yacht to win the donated cup in 1857, the schooner, America. The cup was held defended by American yachts from 1857 through 1983 when it was taken by challenger Australia II of Australia's Royal Perth Yacht Club.

The Cup

The cup was originally an off-the-shelf trophy that was donated to the New York City Yacht Club.
