Cardboard Boat Race

A cardboard boat race or regatta is typically a team building exercise. It consists of the racing of boats made primarily from cardboard, a common material with poor water resiliency.

Typical Arrangement

Participants are all given the same materials often; 2 sheets of 4'x8' cardboard, 1 roll of duct tape, and a length of twine. The participants are given one hour to build a boat with the given materials and then the boats are judged in various categories including; most creative, most technically sound, best use of materials, workmanship, and team spirit. After the judging is complete the boats are raced. Propelled by one team member the boats must pass through a predetermined course and then a weight test is conducted by adding additional team members until the boat sinks.
