A cruise ship is a vessel used for entertainment and enjoyment rather than for traveling to a destination. Cruise ships offer guests many amenities that are not available on typical passenger liners that are used for transatlantic or trans-oceanic voyages.
The cruise ship evolved from the ocean liner slowly as commercial airplanes became the more affordable and quicker way to travel. The competition between liner companies kept increasing the level of outfit and amenities onboard the ships, and this carried over to the modern cruise ship.
Cruise ships are divided vertically, with paying passengers in the superstructure and crew below deck. Additional flood & fire regulations are applicable due to the number of people typically carried.
