Dockwater Allowance

The dockwater allowance (DWA) is used to determine the effective increase of loadline draught allowable for loading in water with a lower specific gravity (S.G.) than saltwater. The allowable loading draught for a lower S.G. water at dockside can be determined by the fraction of the freshwater allowance (FWA):

DWA = FWA x [(Seawater S.G. - Water at dock S.G.) รท (Seawater S.G.)]

The water at dockside being measured with a hydrometer at time of loading.
