Drafting

Drafting is the profession of creating standardized drawings for technical use. Drafting is used in architecture, engineering, aeronautical, mechanical and marine fields to convey an idea or sketch into a drawing that can be used to build from or sell and idea to a client. Draftsmen create drawings according to inhouse or regulatory body standards and drawing paper or drawing sizes should adhere to drafting standards.

Manual Drafting

This technique typically uses a drawing board that a piece of drawing paper is attatched to. The draftsman uses the boards parallel sides and a drafting square to make straight lines on the page.

CAD Drafting

CAD or Computer Aided Drafting makes use of software developed for drafting purposes, for example AutoCAD. This software allows the draftsman to draw complex objects full scale and print out various sections at a desired scale.
