Hull Envelope

The hull envelope may refer to the enclosed volume of the hull or the maximum extend of the hull, disregarding shape. The interior volume dictates capacities and general arrangement, whereas the maximum extend dictates constraints in terms of operational routes. Appendages, rudders, propulsors, bilge keels, etc. tend to be kept within the extant hull envelope for protection against groundings, collisions, etc.
