Hull Form

Hull form is the shape of a vessels exterior shell, exclusive of structure or erections. The shape of the hull is embodied by the lines plan. A hull whose shape is right is known as fair, which is a subjective term, however generally recognized as a shape with smooth transitions and favourable proportions. The achievement of fairness is large portion of the art of naval architecture, as it is not a function of engineering science (though the shape can have a major impact on resistance).
