A smoking lounge is an area of a ship dedicated for smoking tobacco. On passenger vessels, the smoking lounge may take the form of a traditional drawing room - a space dedicated to socializing, typically after meals. Merchant vessels may fit a smoking lounge for the crew per regional sensibilities.
For social rooms, the design of the lounge is primarily related to aesthetics & interior design. Crew rooms can be smaller and more utilitarian, with limited space requirements. Either forms should be provided with ample non-recirculating ventilation, direct access to the exterior preferable. Receptacles for ashes and butts should be provided. Furniture and flooring should be durable and flame retardant.
