The mission profile is a document outlining the requirements of the vessel. The mission profile will be driven primarily by the owners requirements, though the scope of this document is larger. The document will also include the operational profile of the vessel, measures of merit, background information on the project, design goals, environmental conditions, classification, and a mission statement outlining the reason the vessel is desired. The document serves to direct and maintain the focus of the design, the design team, and is sometimes supplied to contractors or suppliers as well. To this aim, design considerations should be framed through the requirements of this document. The vessel design should also be periodically checked against this document as well (for example, every turn of the design spiral).
