One-Compartment Standard

A one-compartment standard is a phrase used to describe a vessel designed to remain afloat with any single compartment flooded. While compartment-flooding standards have generally been superseded by probabilistic damage models, the one-compartment standard is still a common check of a sound design. Vessels who are under the minimal size for damaged stability requirements will sometimes include the worst-case single compartment flooding condition in their stability book for reference.
