Regatta

A regatta is a term used to typically describe a sailboat race or series of races, though regatta is also used by oar powered vessels and in some cases powerboats. A regatta is typically more than just a race or series of races it is often marketed as a fair, expo or community gathering. Regattas are usually hosted by a yacht club, school, or squadron.

Notable Regattas

  • The oldest regatta in North America: The Royal St. John's Regatta held on Quidi Vidi Lake in St. John's, Newfoundland annually since 1826 (rowing).
  • The oldest regatta in the world (still running: The Royal Yacht Squadron's Cowes Week held in Cowes, England. (sailing)
