Reserve Buoyancy

Reserve buoyancy is the enclosed, watertight volume of the vessel above the waterline. Reserve buoyancy is important to a vessels stability - the portion of the vessel considered effective contributes to a vessels righting arm when heeled. It also contributes to a vessels seaworthiness, and provides a buffer against flooding (loss of a portion of buoyancy, see lost buoyancy method).
