Resistance

Resistance is the study of the force required to motivate a ship through the water. It is closely related to the study of propulsion, the amount of power required to deliver this force. Naval architects can use parametric analysis, rules of thumb, or empirical formula to estimate a ships resistance, however as these are estimates, CFD packages or tow tanks are generally used for more accurate results.
