Righting Moment

A righting moment is a moment (force x distance) transversely applied to a vessel. Righting moments induce a heeled vessel to return upright. They arise when the force of gravity and the force of buoyancy are not aligned about the vessels centre. The righting moment of an inclined vessel is produced by the position of weights and hull form.
