Propeller

A propeller, wheel or screw is a mechanical device which creates thrust by rotating lift-generating foils through water (the working fluid). The result is a pressure difference across the propeller, accelerating the water from the foreward face (suction side) to the aft face. Propellers are the primary propulsor fitted to ships today. The proper design and selection of a propeller or propellers can have a large impact on a ships propulsion, as they are a major contributor to driveline losses.
