Sea Trials

Sea trials are voyages used to test the characteristics of a vessel. In particular, mechanical soundness, systems functioning, and performance are evaluated to ensure design characteristics are adequately captured after construction. These voyages are sometimes referred to as shakedown cruises - as the vessel is not yet delivered to client, deficiencies can be corrected by the builder before the handover.

Typical Observations

  • Free-running speed
  • Bollard pull
  • Noise, vibration and harshness
  • Crash-stop distance
  • Turning radius
