Skim Boat

For oil skimming operations, see oil recovery

A skim boat is a self-powered vessel, comprised of a flat, board-like hull with a buoyant bow enclosing a drive motor. Overall form is reminiscent of a surfboard. Skim boats are operated from the prone position, with a aft-mounted rudder for directional control. Bouyant pontoons were envisioned, to maintain a level trim.
