Sounding Pad

A sounding pad or striker is a small piece of plate welded to the bottom of a tank, or an angle iron fitted to the bottom of the sounding tube, which denotes the bottom of a tank when hit by the sounding rod. The location of the sounding pad determines the reference point for the lowest measurable tank soundings, and thus are important to locate when preparing tank reports or sounding tables for stability booklets.
