Standard Speed

Standard speed, or economical cruise speed, is the design speed chosen to balance progress and fuel consumption. This is a common design point for fixed pitch propellers, and of prime consideration when considering engine selection and gearbox ratios. This is the speed at which range is calculated and presented for. Standard speed can be sustained for extended periods of time (i.e., within the limit of consumables) under reasonable use of a vessel.
