Stiff

A vessel is considered stiff when the metacentric height is large enough that it results in an uncomfortably fast righting response when induced to roll. Stiff vessels can induce high accelerations in rough seas, sufficient to break lashings, shift cargo, or result in crew falls/injury. Large machinery with insufficiently sized foundations may shift, becoming or causing damage.
