Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit

20' containers (TEUs)

The twenty foot equivalent unit or TEU is a method of measuring cargo capacity usually onboard a ship or in a container terminal. The TEU is based on the internal volume of a standard 20 foot shipping container. The most commonly accepted dimensions of a TEU are 20 feet long x 8 feet wide x 8.5 feet high with a volume of 1360 cubic feet, but TEU's commonly vary in height.
